When your child has a substance use disorder, it feels as if your world has been turned upside down. It’s easy to become emotionally overwhelmed and burdened by guilt, but the first thing to remember is that it is not your fault.

Questions flood your head: Where did I go wrong? How did I not realize this? What do I do next? How did I not realize this? What do I do next? At Elm Tree Recovery, we offer parent coaching to help new families navigate the daily concerns and feelings they face as a child begins rehab.

Elm Tree Parent Coaching Programs

Elm Tree’s parent coaching services are available before, during and after a young adult has attended our drug and alcohol recovery program. These coaching relationships are designed to answer questions like:

  • How to find the right rehab for your child
  • How to pay for drug rehab
  • How to choose a rehab program

Elm Tree Recovery’s parent coaches have been through the recovery process and are here to provide advice and reassurance for new families. Receive coaching that covers what to expect during every phase of treatment, how to help your child, and how to adapt to your new role as the parent of a young adult in rehab.

Questions to Ask Your Parent Coach

  • How do I get my child into treatment? Some young men and women require an intervention, while others are desperate and ready for the gift of hope.
  • How can I get the support I need? Addiction is a family disease, and it is important for families and caregivers to seek healing while their child is in treatment. Talking with an experienced parent coach is incredibly helpful during this time.
  • What kind of boundaries should I set? There will come a time when you need to set boundaries with your young adult child. A supportive parent coach reassures you and helps you develop boundaries that are in your child’s best interests.
  • How should I act after my son or daughter returns home? Parent coaches guide you throughout the aftercare process, teaching you to encourage your child and avoid a return to negative behaviors and communication patterns.
